Tasting notes
Jane Barrel Select Chardonnay
Jane & Tristen were tasked with the very difficult job of tasting through all of the 2017 Chardonnay Barrels in our wine caves. They quarantined two outstanding barrels, while the remaining barrels of Chardonnay were sent off to bottle to become the 2017 Elizabeth Chardonnay.
The two barrels which were set aside had already aged for 12 months in brand new French oak, was moved to another set of fresh French oak barrels for an additional aging period of 6 months before bottling.
This process ensured that the JBS Chardonnay had a total balance of fruit and oak flavours. The end result is a remarkable Chardonnay grown right here on Yonah’s estate.
Pairs well with a rich, creamy alfredo pasta

Good to know...
What little Chardonnay there was in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s was usually labeled “Pinot Chardonnay” because people erroneously thought it was related to Pinot Noir.
Chardonnay achieved its reputation for greatness in the Burgundy region of France over 1,200 years ago.
Around 800 A.D., the wife of the Emperor Charlemagne, disgusted by the red wine that stained her husband’s white beard, ordered that white grapes be planted in their Burgundy vineyard, which is now called Corton-Charlemagne.
Chardonnay is the best-selling wine in America, red or white. Americans consume over 840,000 bottles per year.
